Sooo, I'm still deep in copyedits (notice I didn't say 'copyedit hell', though, because weirdly… I'm enjoying them - yes, I know I'm strange), which means no time for a proper post again. And the Hound has gone on strike, as apparently I didn't pay him enough for his post last week.
Le sigh.
Anyhow, not to worry, because I have some cool stuff to share. Firstly, I'm not going to be the first person in my family to get
published! My dad, an extremely talented insect and plant
photographer, a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and chairman of
the RPS Nature Group, has a book out on 15th June from Crowood Press. It's
called INSECT PHOTOGRAPHY - ART AND TECHNIQUES, and is aimed at both
amateur and professional photographers. He's wanted to get a
photography book published for a long time, and I am so thrilled for him!
You can order the book directly from Crowood here or find it on Amazon here.
Secondly, Alexander Gordon Smith came to run a horror-writing workshop for a young writers' group I've been helping out with at work. He was brilliant, and the group had a wonderful time, so a huge thank you to him! If you haven't read his FURNACE series yet, I can highly recommend them, and I can't wait to read his latest novel THE FURY, which sounds absolutely terrifying!
Finally, if you missed it on Monday, check out ACID's playlist (and a sneaky look at the theme tune to my WIP!) over at The Lucky 13s.
See you on the other side!
What a cool family! You guys can swap behnd-the-scene publishing stories at family get-togethers!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elsie! :D
DeleteWell done Mr. Emma's dad! Oh, and when I saw the 'secondly' part of your post, I thought it said Alexander Mccall Smith and was thinking I'm sure he doesn't write horror - doesn't he write those charming african lady detective books? Then I re-read. Y'see . . . half asleep, jubilee weekend, half term etc.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I don't think AMS would have enjoyed running a workshop for 8 noisy kids either… especially with some of the ideas they were coming up with. A*G*S was brilliant, though!
DeleteWhat a talented family, Emma! Your dad's book looks fabulous - congrats to him xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nettie, I've passed your congrats on and he says thank you too! xx
DeleteLoved the other (soundtrack) post -- too cool!! And that's so very cool about your dad. I also wouldn't be the first book-published author in my family (crossing fingers for my current queries!!): my parents have co-authored social science books. However, like you, I'd be the first fiction-book published author! Congrats to both you and your dad, Emma!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julia! Glad you like the ACID soundtrack too. I've still got everything crossed for you! :)
DeleteCongrats to your dad! That's so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm deep in second round edits. There was a time not long ago that I could claim LOVING revisions, too. That time is not now. ;o)
Thank you, Peggy! And eep, good luck with the edits.
DeleteWhat a wonderful cover photo - your father is obviously very talented. Guess it runs in the family. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Talli! :)
DeleteCongrats to your dad, Emma! And I am sooo about to go over and see your WIP's playlist.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rachel! And hope you like the playlist… :)
DeleteOh well done your dad! How fab is that? I bet you're so proud, and it looks a fab book. I may have to buy it actually - as you know, I share mutual 'beastie love' with you... err... that sounds weird... but you know what I mean! Big congrats to your pa!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! No worries, Abi, I know what you mean… even if everyone else is going err, what?! right now. :D Thank you - my dad says thank you too! x
