The Lucky 13s Take Over, Week Two: April Tucholke - The Mystery Notebook

While I'm in the writing cave finishing my WIP, some of my fellow Lucky 13s are stepping in to guest blog for me. This week, I'm handing over to April Tucholke.

When I was 14 I flew to CA to visit my cousins. I read a lot, a lot, of Agatha Christie that year, and made a MYSTERY NOTEBOOK to put clues in. It was just a regular lined notebook that I wrote MYSTERY NOTEBOOK on. I took the notebook with on my trip, fully expecting to find, and solve, many crimes with it. Um...yeah.

April Tucholke's debut novel, BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA, is out from Dial/Penguin in Summer 2013. You can find her at apriltucholke.com.

  1. April, you need to write a book one day that requires you to illustrate it with comics :)

    1. Ha. Yeah. Me and the comics. I just won't quit. Do you know how much fun I had giving the above bearded corpse that blood-soaked shirt? Do you?

  2. April, is there anything you can't do??? You chase down mysteries AND make comics, too??? And here I thought my fangirl barometer couldn't go any higher. :)

BTW, that comic rendition of you is the perfect combination of your true appearance and some serious ScoobyDoo Voodoo. You could totally give Daphne and Velma a run for their money.

So, you left us hanging. What was up w/the dog, yo? ;)

    1. Oh, A.G. I think I love you. ScoobyDoo Voodoo? Man, that's funny.

The dog! Ha! I really, really wanted that dog's barking to indicate a crime. I mean, if you'd offered 14-year-old April a pony, or a crime to solve, I wouldn't have hesitated...

  3. What a great blog and comic -- I love it! And you know, I did almost the exact same thing when I was 14 (and I lived in California at the time!) -- I read every Agatha Christie written and I also loved Harriet the Spy. Such a cool blog. (p.s. Everything I write has a hint of mystery about it, and my lastest WIP, now in revisions, is a mystery novel, so I guess I haven't changed that much :)
