This is just a small selection of the books I loved when I was a kid. As you can see, it's a real mix of stuff – I would read just about anything I could get my hands on (and still do!).
Happy World Book Day plus one, lovely blog readers! What are your favourite childhood books?
Love it! I used to read Peter Rabbit a lot, too.
ReplyDeleteI also read A LOT of Roald Dahl (until the covers fell off!).
Thanks for your comment, Kate! Those copies of the Flicka books are actually the second set I bought (as an adult), because I read the originals until the covers fell off too (and then until the pages fell out!).
DeleteMy childhood favourites include Peter Rabbit too (I have 4 stuffed animal bunnies named after his sisters LOL), Nancy Drew, Animorphs, Ender's Game, anything by Mercedes Lackey, the Alanna seres by Tamora Pierce, Dune (yes I read it at 9!)...it's funny I never ended up a sci fi, fantasy or mystery writer! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I loved Nancy Drew. And the Hardy Boys! Then I discovered Stephen King, which explains, well, everything. :oP
DeleteI used to love Roald Dahl, and Dick King-Smith. I still love Diana Wynne Jones - you don't have to be a child (or have a child) to enjoy childrens books!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not – 905 of what I read is written for kids or young adults. And Diana Wynne Jones is awesome! I recently read Enchanted Glass - a wonderful book!
DeleteBlack Beauty - I read and reread till my copy fell apart. And then borrowed it from the library.
ReplyDeleteI loved that one too! My mum used to read it to me and my sister – it was just magical.
DeleteThe Little House books. I cannot tell you how much I loved them! I distinctly remember getting the full set for Christmas one year and curling up in a chair to read all day long.
ReplyDeleteI've never read those, Heather – I will have to give them a try!
DeleteI read Famous Five and Secret Seven, Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys and Black Beauty. My all time favourite is A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley which I've read time and time again, the last being a few months ago. Time travel, ghosts, history and a local setting all rolled into one. Magical.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds amazing, Lynn - have added it to the TBR pile!
DeleteAnyone remember The Runaways by Victor Canning? I loved that book.
ReplyDeleteNo . . .?
Just me?
Oh, and really interesting comment about Xbox Live . . .
Yeah, never heard of that book… :oP (The Xbox live one, not The Runaways – I have heard of that! ;))
DeleteAw these are lovely, Emma. I used to love books about horses too. I love Roald Dahl now but didn't really come to know his books until I had my children. A lovely selection!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Abi!
